Many commonly used drugs are effective for only 40 to 60% of the patient population, up to 15% of hospitalized patients experience serious adverse drug reactions and more than 100,000 deaths occur annually as a result of such reactions. Patients with the most common cancers like brain tumors, breast cancer and leukemia, receive very aggressive treatments and often have serious side effects and very often are not effective. The very same medicine that works wonders for some people can be ineffective or even toxic to others. The reason for this is that as medicine finds its way to the target site in the body, so many things happen along the way. One reaction triggers another and medicine that should work, masks the symptom. An individual’s metabolism also plays a big role. Every individual metabolizes drugs differently. Variations (SNPs) in the genes of an individual makes different proteins and as a drug travels through the body, it interacts with many of these proteins. Genomic research in drug discovery has paved the way for targeted therapies and personalized medicine. Genetic variations affect the metabolism and pharmacological activity of drugs.

Advanced Genomics at Research and Discovery Platform:

Advanced Genomics at Research and Discovery Platform is using SNPs and gene expression analysis for:

  • Assessment of drug toxicity and efficacy
  • Selection of lead candidate for drug discovery
  • Development and screening of compounds through cell based and biochemical assays
  • Sort out the patients best suitable for particular drug and therapy
Advanced Genomics at Complete Solution Platform: Advanced Genomics provides a platform for the development of tools for early diagnosis of certain conditions and for identifying molecular targets for therapeutic interventions. Advanced Genomics is working with partners for developing some of the pharmacogenomics tests for the prevention and assessment of drug treatment and therapy:

Prognostic and Diagnostic Biomarkers Discovery: At Advanced Genomics, we use gene expression signatures to explore the underlying biology of a disease or drug response, to understand the various mechanisms and manifestations of disease.

Theranostic Biomarkers Discovery: We also identify biomarkers in monitoring response to therapy. We use gene expression study to stratify patients into groups likely to respond to the mechanism of therapy and to distinguish responders from non-responders of the therapy.
